When Angela Meusel moved to Davis, some friends gave her the Davis Enterprise as a welcome gift. “I kept reading about the opioid crisis and all the kids ending up in foster care because of it and wanted to do something to help. Then I read one of Tracy’s columns about being a CASA, and it seemed like a good fit.”

Amelia Fenk wasn’t quite old enough to become a CASA volunteer when she first heard about the program. “A Yolo County CASA staff member came to UC Davis to speak about the organization. I majored in Spanish and minored in Education and I have a growing interest in social work. So the mission really called to me.”

As she was looking to become more involved in the community, she heard about Yolo County CASA from a friend who was a CASA volunteer in Sacramento. Then, her husband saw an article in the newspaper and she decided to apply.

When Connie Campos found out she could not have children of her own, she became certified to be a foster parent. However, shortly after becoming certified, she learned that circumstances would not allow her to be a foster parent at that time. Connie remembered finding out about Yolo County CASA as she was researching the foster care system and there happened to be an upcoming training. She applied, was accepted, and has been a CASA volunteer for several months.

On September 9, 2018, Yolo County CASA hosted its annual dinner and auction. The event, Yolo County CASA’s largest annual fundraiser, raised enough money to provide 104 children in our foster care system with a CASA volunteer.
