Lisa Haass arrived in Davis with her family nineteen years ago and has been involved in the community ever since. “When we arrived in town we just jumped right in. We immersed ourselves in activities and volunteer opportunities and made Yolo County home.” In fact, for the past fourteen years, Lisa has been helping people find and sell homes in the area as a real estate agent with the GoodHome Group.
When her business partner approached Lisa about an opportunity to be on the advisory board for Yolo County CASA, she was happy to help, “I have a friend who was a foster parent and I’d help to support her in ways that I could. She spoke highly of CASA and I’ve always had a passion for kids. I firmly believe that it just takes one person to make a difference in the life of a child and that is what CASA is all about.”
In her role on the advisory board, Lisa looks for opportunities to spread the word about Yolo County CASA. “Communication is very powerful and I want to use my network to spread the word. I regularly promote CASA on social media as well as to my sphere. Someone in my network recently completed training to become a CASA! You never know who you are touching when you spread a good message… it’s so important.”
In addition to spreading the word about Yolo County CASA’s mission, Lisa is involved in fundraisers and other events through Yolo County CASA as well. “Perhaps one of the most impactful moments from my work with Yolo County CASA happened when a former foster youth told us about her childhood. I had no idea exactly how impacted the dependency system is and what these kids go through—through no fault of their own. I was and continue to be so very moved by the impact CASA volunteers make.”
As for her future with Yolo County CASA, Lisa plans to keep spreading the word about Yolo County CASA and raising funds for Yolo County CASA through her work on the advisory board. And someday, she wants to become a CASA herself. “My kids are getting older and when I have more time to devote to a child in the system, I plan to become a CASA volunteer. I hope that I can be that ‘one person’ for a child in Yolo County.”
