Not only does the Woodland Opera House provide good entertainment to the community, it provides goodwill as well. For many years,the Woodland Opera House has made a huge effort to make art accessible to those who otherwise wouldn’t have access. Executive Director Angela Baltezore states, “We are very plugged into the community. At staff meetings, we talk about ways we can bring art to as many people as possible, especially children.”

Lisa Haass arrived in Davis with her family nineteen years ago and has been involved in the community ever since. “When we arrived in town we just jumped right in. We immersed ourselves in activities and volunteer opportunities and made Yolo County home.” In fact, for the past fourteen years, Lisa has been helping people find and sell homes in the area as a real estate agent with the GoodHome Group.

Laurie Goldstein arrived in Yolo County a few years ago. With a big city resume and small-town heart, Laurie was on a mission to bring the art of Storytelling to Woodland. “I’ve worked in public relations on Madison Avenue and in screenwriting in Los Angeles. I’ve seen creativity enhance so many lives and organizations and I wanted to bring more of it to Woodland.”

Art is the tie that binds Susan Shelton to Yolo County CASA. While in the process of completing a pre-med degree at UC Davis, Susan took a ceramic art class to relax, but found her life’s calling instead. “I fell in love with the artform and knew that this would be not only my career, but my passion.” Her career has included a wide range of ceramic work, from pottery to large public art installations and garden landscape projects, and for the past ten years, she’s taught ceramic art to kids who’ve been through trauma.

Working with children has always been part of Board Member Jenny Amarante-Revis’ life. She coached youth sports all throughout high school and college and while attending law school at Santa Clara University, she volunteered for a nonprofit organization helping children who had been incarcerated. It was there she first heard about the CASA program, “I remember first hearing about the CASA program in law school. When I learned what it was all about, I knew that someday I would be more involved in it.”
