The Youmans family, owners of Hallmark Properties, are again hosting a giving tree for Yolo County CASA in the lobby of the Hallmark Inn in Davis. Susan and Reed Youmans are long-time supporters of Yolo County CASA and their past “Hearts of Yolo” profile can be read here.
This year, they have a special story to share. Susan states, “We were at a dinner a few weeks ago, and ran into a couple of old friends. As it often does, Yolo County CASA came up in the course of the conversation because Reed and I have a habit of talking about how much we believe in the cause. After talking about it for a while, the woman had tears in her eyes. When I asked her what was wrong, she said that she was in the foster care system and moved to five or six different foster homes as a child. She said she would have loved to have a CASA volunteer.”
Susan says interactions like these solidify her and Reed’s support for Yolo County CASA. “We can’t think of a more vulnerable population of children. For reasons beyond their control, these kids are placed in the foster care system. It is our responsibility as a community to embrace them and care for them as if they are our own.”
The holidays, Susan says, are a time to look beyond ourselves and think about what we can do for people around us who may be suffering or not as fortunate. “The trees in our lobby are a visual way that we achieve that spirit.”
Susan and Reed Youmans were Davis’ “Citizens of the Year” in 2016 and we are grateful to have their support.
